Psalms 88: A Lament from the Edge of Death

Heman the Ezrahite cries day and night to the God who saves him, though he feels close to death, forgotten, and crushed by God's anger. He asks whether the dead can praise God and why God hides His face, and the psalm ends without relief, with darkness pictured as his nearest companion.
