What this site is

Grasp the Gospel is a Bible comprehension quiz app. You read a chapter in your own copy of Scripture, then come here to take a short quiz on it. This page explains what information we collect when you use the site and what we do with it.

Using the site without an account

You can take quizzes as a guest without creating an account. In guest mode, we store a single cookie on your device to remember your chosen reading level (General or Theological). This cookie is session-only — it is not readable by any other site, is never sent anywhere but back to this server, and is cleared automatically when you close your browser. No guest quiz activity is saved on our servers.

So you can pick up where you left off, your guest quiz results and any study plan you start are kept in your own browser's local storage on this device. They stay there, and are never sent to us, unless you later create an account or sign in on that device. In that case they are saved to your account. You can erase them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Daily chapter emails

If you sign up for daily chapter emails, with or without an account, we store your email address, which chapter or study plan you're on, that you confirmed you are 13 or older, and when you confirmed and last received an email. We use this only to send you one chapter a day. Nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link we email you. Every email has a link to stop them, and you can ask us at the address below to delete your address entirely.

Creating an account

If you register for an account, we collect and store:

• Your email address, used to identify your account and let you sign in.
• Your password — stored only as a one-way cryptographic hash. We never store or have access to your actual password.
• Your reading-level preference (General or Theological) and email preferences.
• An optional display name, if you choose to set one.
• That you confirmed you are 13 or older when you signed up, and when.
• Your quiz history — which questions you answered, your answers, and whether they were correct — so you can review your past attempts.

Signing in sets a single cookie (a signed session token) used only to recognize your account on future visits. It cannot be read or used by any other website.

Groups

If you join a group, its leaders can see your email address and display name, whether you've taken each quiz the group assigns (counting quizzes taken after the assignment was made), your score on it, and which questions the group missed most often. Other members see only your display name, or the part of your email address before the @ if you haven't set one. Your quiz history on chapters the group hasn't assigned stays private. You can leave a group at any time, and a group's creator can delete it; either way, your own quiz history is kept.

Group members get an email two days before an assignment is due, and group leaders get a weekly summary of their group's progress. You can turn these off on your account page.

What we don't do

We do not sell or share your information with third parties. We do not run advertising, and we do not currently use any third-party analytics or tracking services. Nothing you do on this site is used to build an advertising profile.

Like most websites, our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for about two weeks to keep the site running and secure. The site also records a few anonymous events in those logs, such as how far through a quiz people get, without cookies or any identifier, to help us improve it.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. You can download a copy of your data, or permanently delete your account and everything associated with it, at any time from your account page. You can also contact us at the email below and we'll do it for you.

Children's privacy

You must be 13 or older to create an account, and we ask you to confirm this when you sign up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Younger readers can take quizzes as a guest, which stores nothing about them on our servers, or alongside a parent using the parent's own account. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe that has happened, please contact us at the email below.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
