Psalm 92 Devotional
Still Fruitful in Old Age
“Planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.”Psalm 92:13 (BSB)
Psalm 92 is headed as a Sabbath song (92:1). It says that praising the LORD is good, telling of his steadfast love in the morning and his faithfulness at night (92:1-2). The psalmist is glad because of what God has done, and he marvels at how great God's works are and how deep his thoughts run (92:4-5).
A senseless person misses what the psalmist sees. The wicked may spring up like grass and seem to flourish, but they are headed for destruction (92:6-7). The righteous are a different kind of plant. They thrive like a palm and grow tall like a cedar, rooted in the LORD's house (92:12-13). And they do not stop growing with age. Even when old, they still bear fruit and stay fresh, declaring that the LORD is upright, their rock, with no wrong in him (92:14-15). Their strength does not come from youth but from where they are planted. A life rooted in God can keep bearing fruit long after its own strength has faded.
To think about: What fruit could God still be producing in your life in this season, whatever your age or strength?
