Psalm 105 Devotional

A Promise Kept Across Generations

“For He remembered His holy promise to Abraham His servant.”Psalm 105:42 (BSB)

Psalm 105 calls God's people to give thanks and to tell the nations what he has done (105:1). Then it tells the story from Abraham to the promised land, and the main character is always God. He remembers his covenant, his binding promise, for a thousand generations (105:8). When the patriarchs were few and wandering, he let no one oppress them (105:12-14). He sent Joseph ahead, though Joseph arrived as a slave in shackles, until the LORD's word proved him right (105:17-19). He sent Moses and Aaron, struck Egypt with plagues, and brought Israel out with silver and gold (105:26-37).

Verse 42 explains all of it. God did these things because he remembered his holy promise to Abraham. Israel's history ran on God's faithfulness to his word, not on Israel's strength. Paul says that every one of God's promises is confirmed in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). Even Joseph's years in irons lay inside that faithfulness. When a promise seems slow, God's long record gives you reason to keep trusting.

To think about: Where are you waiting on God right now, and how does his long record of keeping promises shape how you wait?
