The man likens the woman to a lily among thorns, and she urges the women of Jerusalem not to stir up love before its proper time. He comes swiftly over the hills and calls her away because winter has ended; she declares that they belong to each other and asks him to be swift as a gazelle.

At night the woman searches the city streets for the one she loves, passes the watchmen and finds him. She repeats her charge about waiting for love, King Solomon’s carriage arrives in a grand procession, and the women of Zion are called to see him crowned on his wedding day.

The bridegroom praises his bride’s beauty in a series of images and declares her flawless. He calls her to come away with him from the peaks of Lebanon, says one glance from her has won his heart, and the chapter closes with further images of his delight in her.

The woman hesitates when her beloved knocks at night, and by the time she opens he has gone. Searching the city, she is struck by the watchmen and asks the daughters of Jerusalem to tell him of her longing. When they ask what makes him special, she praises him and calls him her beloved and friend.
- Song of Solomon 6: The Beloved Found and the Shulammite
The daughters of Jerusalem offer to help the woman find her beloved, and she replies that he is tending his flock and that the two belong to each other. He praises her as unique above all other women, who also admire her, and others call the Shulammite to return.
- Song of Solomon 7: Praise of the Bride and an Invitation
The chapter opens with poetic praise of the bride’s beauty. She affirms that she belongs to her beloved and that he longs for her, then invites him to go out with her to the countryside and the vineyards in springtime.
- Song of Solomon 8: The Seal of Love
The woman wishes she could show her love openly and repeats her charge to wait for love’s right time. She asks to be set like a seal on his heart and declares that love rivals death in strength and cannot be bought. Plans for a younger sister, a contrast of two vineyards, and a last call to her beloved close the Song.
