Revelation 15 Devotional

A Song Beside the Glassy Sea

“and they sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and wonderful are Your works, O Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations!”Revelation 15:3 (BSB)

Revelation 15 pauses before the final plagues to show those who conquered the beast, standing beside a glassy sea mingled with fire and holding harps that God has given them (15:2). They sing the song of Moses, God's servant, and of the Lamb (15:3). Moses once led Israel in song after God threw the enemy's horses and riders into the sea (Exodus 15:1). Now a far greater deliverance is in view.

What stands out is the content of the song. It says nothing about the singers. It praises God's great and wonderful works, his just and true ways, and his holiness, and it looks ahead to all nations coming to worship him because his righteous acts have been revealed (15:3-4). The seven bowls about to be poured out are said to complete God's wrath (15:1, 7). It is those who have suffered under the beast who call God's ways just. When his ways seem slow or hard to understand, you can still join their song, trusting that his justice will one day be plain to everyone.

To think about: Where do you need to trust that God's ways are just, even before you can see how?

About Revelation 15: The Song of Moses and the Lamb

John sees seven angels with the last seven plagues, which complete God's wrath. Those who conquered the beast stand beside a sea of glass, singing the song of Moses and the Lamb in praise of God's just ways, and the temple in heaven fills with the smoke of his glory.
