Psalm 96 Devotional

News Too Good to Keep

“Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.”Psalm 96:3 (BSB)

Psalm 96 calls all the earth to sing a new song to the LORD (96:1). It is not meant to stay inside Israel. God's people are to announce his salvation every day and tell of his glory and wonders among every nation (96:2-3). The reason is clear: every god the nations worship is an idol, but the LORD made the heavens (96:5).

So the families of the nations are invited to give the LORD the glory his name deserves, to bring an offering, and to worship him in his holy beauty (96:7-9). The message is that the LORD reigns and will judge the peoples fairly (96:10). The rest of creation joins in. The heavens rejoice, the sea roars, the fields celebrate, and every tree in the woods sings (96:11-12). Why such joy at the thought of judgment? Because God is coming to set the world right, judging in righteousness and faithfulness (96:13). The maker of the heavens is good news for every people, and his people are given the joy of telling it.

To think about: Who in your life has not yet heard the good news about God, and how might you share some of it this week?
