Psalm 19 Devotional
Glory Without Words
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”Psalm 19:14 (BSB)
Two kinds of speech fill this psalm. First the sky speaks. Day after day and night after night the heavens pour out knowledge of God's glory, without words or sound, yet their message reaches the ends of the earth (19:1-4). Paul says creation displays God's eternal power so plainly that no one has an excuse (Romans 1:20).
Then the psalm turns to a clearer voice. The LORD's law is perfect and revives the soul; his commands are right and bring joy to the heart (19:7-8). They are worth more than fine gold and are sweeter than honey (19:10). The sky can show that God is glorious, but only his word can show us ourselves. So the psalm ends in honesty. No one can see all his own errors, and David asks to be cleansed of hidden faults and kept from deliberate sin (19:12-13). His last words call God his Rock and Redeemer (19:14). The God who speaks through the stars also speaks to forgive.
To think about: What hidden fault might you ask God to bring to light and cleanse, trusting him as your Redeemer?
