Numbers 28 Devotional
The Daily Under Everything
“And tell them that this is the food offering you are to present to the LORD as a regular burnt offering each day: two unblemished year-old male lambs.”Numbers 28:3 (BSB)
Numbers 28 reads like a calendar. God calls these offerings his food, to be presented at their appointed times (28:2). Every day there are two lambs, one in the morning and one at twilight (28:3-4). Every Sabbath, two more (28:9). At each new moon come bulls, a ram, lambs, and a goat for a sin offering (28:11, 15). Then come Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the Feast of Weeks (28:16-26).
One phrase keeps returning. Each special offering is added on top of the regular daily burnt offering (28:10, 15, 23, 31). The feasts never replace the daily lambs. Every festival is laid on top of ordinary mornings and evenings that never stop. Israel's whole calendar, day, week, month, and year, was shaped around meeting God. Hebrews urges believers to keep offering God praise through Jesus (Hebrews 13:15). The great days of faith matter, but they rest on the ordinary ones. Because Christ has opened the way, your plain mornings and evenings can be offered to God too.
To think about: What simple daily rhythm could help you offer your ordinary mornings and evenings to God?
