Isaiah 26 Devotional

Peace Kept by God Himself

“You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You.”Isaiah 26:3 (BSB)

Judah's song begins with a strong city whose walls and ramparts are salvation itself (26:1). Its central promise is that God guards the peace of those whose minds stay fixed on him in trust (26:3). That peace rests on the LORD as the everlasting Rock (26:4). Later they admit: everything they have accomplished, God has done for them (26:12).

The song is honest about the struggle. They long for God through the night (26:9). They confess that their own efforts were like labor pains that produced only wind, bringing no rescue to the earth (26:17-18). Then comes a striking promise of resurrection: God's people who have died will live again in their bodies, waking from the dust to sing (26:19). Paul says Christ has already been raised as the firstfruits of all who have died in him (1 Corinthians 15:20). What we cannot produce, God gives, from daily peace to life beyond the grave. You can bring your restless mind to the One who does the work.

To think about: What is unsettling your mind today, and what would it look like to fix your trust on the Rock who keeps you in peace?

About Isaiah 26: Judah’s Song of Trust and Resurrection Hope

Judah sings of a strong city walled by salvation and of the peace God gives to those who trust Him. The people long for God, confess that their own labor saved no one, and are promised that His dead will rise, then are told to hide briefly while He judges the earth.
