Isaiah 25 Devotional

A Table Spread for Every People

“He will swallow up death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face and remove the disgrace of His people from the whole earth. For the LORD has spoken.”Isaiah 25:8 (BSB)

After judgment comes praise. God has faithfully carried out what he planned long ago, bringing down a fortified city and sheltering the poor and needy like shade in the heat (25:1-5). Then Isaiah sees a feast. On his mountain the LORD of Hosts prepares the richest food and finest aged wine, not for one nation but for all peoples (25:6).

What happens at the table is even better than the meal. God removes the shroud that covers every nation, ends death permanently, and dries every tear (25:7-8). The people rejoice that their long wait for God has ended in rescue (25:9). Paul points to this promise when he describes the resurrection body and death's final defeat (1 Corinthians 15:54). Revelation pictures God himself wiping away every tear, with death and mourning gone (Revelation 21:4). Death is not something to simply accept here. It is an enemy God defeats. Whatever grief you carry today, this chapter tells you who will dry those tears, and waiting for him is never wasted.

To think about: What grief or loss do you need to bring to the God who promises to end death and dry every tear?
