Hosea 14 Devotional

Words to Bring Back

“I will heal their apostasy; I will freely love them, for My anger has turned away from them.”Hosea 14:4 (BSB)

Hosea's book of broken love ends with an open door. Israel is called to return to the LORD, because they have stumbled in their sin (14:1). God even supplies the words to bring. They are to ask him to take away all their iniquity and receive them graciously, to renounce Assyria and horses, and to stop calling the work of their hands their gods, because in him the fatherless find compassion (14:2-3).

His answer is pure grace. He will heal their unfaithfulness and love them freely, because his anger has turned away (14:4). He will be like dew to them, and they will blossom like the lily and take root like the cedars of Lebanon (14:5-7). All their fruit comes from him (14:8). The love that bought back an unfaithful wife is the love that heals Israel. You do not need to arrive with polished words or a repaired life. Come with honest confession, and he will love you freely.

To think about: What honest words of confession could you bring to God today, trusting that he receives returning people graciously?

About Hosea 14: Israel Called to Return

Hosea urges Israel to come back to the LORD with words of confession, renouncing Assyria, horses, and idols. God promises to heal their unfaithfulness, love them freely, and make them flourish under His dew, and the book closes by urging the wise to see that the upright follow God's paths while rebels trip on them.
