Ezekiel 43 Devotional

The Glory Comes Home

“Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.”Ezekiel 43:5 (BSB)

Years earlier, Ezekiel watched the glory of the LORD leave the temple and pause at its east gate (10:18-19). Now, standing at the gate facing east, he sees the glory coming back from the east. The voice sounds like rushing waters, and Ezekiel falls on his face (43:1-3). The glory enters, and the Spirit lifts him into the inner court to see it fill the house (43:4-5).

Then God speaks from inside. The house is his throne room, and he will dwell there with his people for good (43:7). He tells Ezekiel to describe the temple so the people will be ashamed of their sins (43:10), and he gives rules for cleansing the altar, ending with a promise to accept them (43:27). The glory that left in judgment returns to stay. Paul tells the church that believers together are God's temple, where he has promised to live among his people (2 Corinthians 6:16). The presence that once departed has come back to make its home with his own.

To think about: What would change in your day if you lived as someone in whom God has truly made his home?
