Revelation 22 Devotional

The Curse Undone at Last

“They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.”Revelation 22:4 (BSB)

The Bible ends with a river and the tree of life in the middle of the city (22:1-2). The tree's leaves bring healing to the nations, and the curse is gone for good (22:3). Humanity was once driven from the garden and barred from the tree of life (Genesis 3:22-24). Now the way is open again. And God's servants will look on his face and bear his name on their foreheads (22:4).

The book closes with Jesus himself speaking. Three times he says he is coming soon (22:7, 12, 20). He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Root and Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star (22:13, 16). And between the promises comes a wide-open invitation: the Spirit and the bride call out, and anyone who is thirsty may come and take the water of life as a free gift (22:17). Revelation does not end with a chart of the future but with an invitation and with grace (22:21). You can answer his promise the way John does, by asking him to come (22:20).

To think about: What would it look like for you to long for Jesus' return, and to answer his invitation to come and drink?

About Revelation 22: The River of Life and the Promised Return
