Revelation 19 Devotional

Invited to the Wedding Feast

“Then the angel told me to write, “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.””Revelation 19:9 (BSB)

Revelation 19 opens with heaven shouting praise. God has judged the great prostitute and avenged his servants' blood, and his judgments are true and right (19:1-2). Then the song turns from judgment to joy: the Almighty reigns, and the Lamb's wedding day has come (19:6-7). His bride is given fine, bright linen to wear (19:8). Even her clothing is a gift. Those invited to the wedding supper are called blessed (19:9).

Then heaven opens, and Christ rides out on a white horse. He is called Faithful and True, and he is named the Word of God (19:11, 13). His robe is dipped in blood, and written on it is his title, King of kings and Lord of lords (19:13, 16). The beast and the false prophet, who seemed unstoppable in earlier chapters, are simply captured (19:19-20). There are two suppers in this chapter: the Lamb's wedding feast, and the grim feast of birds over those who opposed him (19:17-18). The invitation to the first still stands, and the one who gives it is faithful to his word.

To think about: How does knowing that Christ is called Faithful and True shape the way you trust his promises today?

About Revelation 19: The Marriage Supper and the White Horse Rider
