Revelation 11 Devotional

Witnesses Death Cannot Silence

“Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and loud voices called out in heaven: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He will reign forever and ever.””Revelation 11:15 (BSB)

Revelation 11 gives a picture of faithful witness. Two witnesses prophesy for a set time, clothed in sackcloth, and God protects them until their testimony is finished (11:3-7). Then the beast from the Abyss makes war on them and kills them, and their bodies lie exposed in the street of the city where their Lord was crucified (11:7-8). The world celebrates and exchanges gifts (11:10).

But after three and a half days God breathes life into them, they stand up, and they are called up to heaven while their enemies watch (11:11-12). Their story follows their Lord's: faithful testimony, death, and vindication. Then the seventh trumpet sounds, and heaven announces that rule over the world now belongs to the Lord and his Christ, forever (11:15). The elders give thanks that God has begun to reign, and that the time has come for judging the dead and rewarding his servants (11:17-18). Faithfulness to Christ may cost much in this world. It cannot cost you the end of the story, which already belongs to him.

To think about: Where are you tempted to stay quiet about Christ because faithfulness might cost you something?
