Psalm 145 Devotional

Praise Passed to the Next Generation

“The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call out to Him in truth.”Psalm 145:18 (BSB)

David sets out to bless God every day and forever (145:1-2), and the task has no end, because the LORD's greatness cannot be searched out (145:3). So praise becomes a relay. One generation commends God's works to the next and tells of his mighty deeds (145:4).

What does David pass on? That the LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in loving devotion (145:8), echoing God's own words to Moses (Exodus 34:6). That he is good to all, and his compassion rests on everything he has made (145:9). That he holds up all who are falling and lifts all who are bowed down (145:14). That every creature looks to him for food, and he opens his hand to satisfy them (145:15-16). Above all, the God whose greatness is beyond measure is near to all who call on him in truth (145:18). The faith you hold reached you because someone passed it on. Today you can be part of the relay, telling someone else what God has done.

To think about: Who in the next generation could you tell about something God has done, and when could you do it?
