Chapters in Nahum
- Nahum 1: The LORD Judges Nineveh and Comforts Judah
Nahum's vision against Nineveh opens by praising the LORD as patient yet certain to punish the guilty, mighty over storm, sea and mountains. He shelters all who rely on Him, but Nineveh will be ended, Judah freed from its yoke, and a messenger brings news of peace.
- Nahum 2: The Fall and Plunder of Nineveh
An attacker advances on Nineveh as the LORD restores the glory of His people. Chariots storm the city, its defenders falter, its treasures are carried off, and the lions' den of the oppressor is left empty because the LORD of Hosts has set Himself against it.
- Nahum 3: Woe to the Bloodstained City
Nahum pronounces woe on Nineveh for its violence, lies, plunder and sorcery, and the LORD declares He will put it to shame. Like mighty Thebes it will fall, its fortresses and officials will fail, and the nations will rejoice over the incurable wound of the cruel king of Assyria.
