Micah 4 Devotional

Strength Made From the Lame

““On that day,” declares the LORD, “I will gather the lame; I will assemble the outcast, even those whom I have afflicted.”Micah 4:6 (BSB)

Chapter 3 ended with the temple hill turned into a wooded ridge. Chapter 4 opens with that same mountain lifted above every other, and many nations streaming to it to learn the LORD's ways (4:1-2). He settles disputes between nations, swords are hammered into farm tools, and no one trains for war anymore. Each person sits under his own vine and fig tree, with no one to make him afraid (4:3-4).

Then God says how he will build this future. He will gather the lame and assemble the outcast, even those he himself afflicted, and make them a remnant and a strong nation over which he will reign forever (4:6-7). Zion will go to Babylon, but there the LORD will redeem her (4:10). God does not build his kingdom from the impressive. Paul says he chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong (1 Corinthians 1:27). Whatever weakness you bring to him is no barrier to belonging in what he is building.

To think about: What weakness or limitation have you assumed disqualifies you from being useful to God?

About Micah 4: Nations Stream to the LORD's Mountain

Micah foresees a day when the nations stream to the LORD's exalted mountain to learn His ways, weapons become farm tools, and war ends. The LORD will bring the lame and outcast together as a remnant and reign over them, and Zion, though exiled to Babylon, will be redeemed while gathered enemies face judgment.
