Mark 5 Devotional

Never Too Late for Jesus

“But Jesus overheard their conversation and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe.””Mark 5:36 (BSB)

Three people in this chapter are past all human help. A man lives among the tombs, and no chain can hold him and no one is strong enough to subdue him (5:3-4). A woman has bled for twelve years, spent everything she had on physicians, and only grown worse (5:26). A little girl dies while her father is still pleading for her, and messengers tell him there is no point troubling the Teacher any longer (5:35).

In each case Jesus does what no one else could. The man is found sitting, clothed and in his right mind (5:15). The woman, who came up behind him in the crowd, is drawn out and called Daughter (5:34). The girl is taken by the hand and told to get up, and she rises and walks (5:41-42). Demons, disease and death all give way to him. When others decide it is too late to bother Jesus, he tells Jairus to trade fear for faith (5:36). No situation is too far gone to bring to him.

To think about: What situation in your life have you quietly decided is too far gone to bring to Jesus?
