Chapters in Malachi
- Malachi 1: God's Love and Contempt at His Altar
The LORD affirms His love for Israel by contrasting His choice of Jacob with His judgment on Esau's nation, Edom. He then rebukes the priests for dishonoring Him with blind, lame, and sick sacrifices, and declares that His name will be honored among the nations.
- Malachi 2: Unfaithful Priests and Broken Marriages
The LORD warns the priests that they have corrupted His covenant with Levi, whose faithful teaching once turned many from sin. Malachi then rebukes Judah for marrying worshipers of foreign gods and for betraying the wives of their youth, and he charges the people with wearying the LORD by questioning His justice.
- Malachi 3: The Coming Messenger and Refiner
The LORD promises to send a messenger to prepare His way, after which the Lord will suddenly arrive at His temple to refine the priests and judge the wicked. He calls the people to return, charges them with robbing Him of tithes and offerings, and promises to remember and spare those who fear Him.
- Malachi 4: The Day of the LORD and Elijah
The LORD announces a coming day that will burn up the proud and the wicked like stubble, while healing and joy dawn for those who fear His name. He calls Israel to keep in mind the law given through Moses and promises to send Elijah before that great day to reconcile fathers and children.
