Chapters in Joel
- Joel 1: Locusts and Drought Strike Judah
Joel son of Pethuel describes a locust plague and drought that have stripped Judah's fields, vines, and orchards and halted the temple offerings. He calls elders, priests, and people to mourn, fast, and cry to the LORD, warning that the LORD's day of judgment is near, and he prays for the parched land.
- Joel 2: A Call to Repent and the Promised Spirit
Joel pictures the LORD's coming day of judgment as a vast army under God's command and urges Judah to return to Him with sincere repentance. The LORD takes pity, promises to restore what the locusts destroyed, and foretells pouring out His Spirit on all kinds of people and rescue for all who call on Him.
- Joel 3: The LORD Judges the Nations
The LORD gathers the nations into the Valley of Jehoshaphat to judge them for scattering His people and dividing His land, and He charges Tyre, Sidon, and Philistia with selling Judah's people. He calls the nations to a hopeless war, shelters His people, and promises a holy Jerusalem and His lasting presence in Zion.
