Job 39 Devotional
Creatures Beyond Our Reach
“Does the hawk take flight by your understanding and spread his wings toward the south?”Job 39:26 (BSB)
The LORD keeps questioning Job, now about animals. Does Job know when mountain goats give birth, or count the months a doe carries her young (39:1-2)? God made the wilderness the home of the wild donkey, who wants nothing of the city's noise (39:5-7). The wild ox will never pull Job's plow (39:9-12). The ostrich leaves her eggs in the sand and lacks wisdom, yet she mocks horse and rider when she spreads her wings (39:13-18). The hawk and the eagle rise and nest on high, not by Job's understanding (39:26-30).
None of these creatures exists to serve Job. Yet God knows their births, gives them homes, and sets their strength. The world is far larger than human needs, and God's attention covers all of it. Jesus said that even a sparrow does not fall without the Father's will (Matthew 10:29). If God watches over the birth of a mountain goat no one will ever see, no life is too small or too hidden for his attention.
To think about: What does it mean for you today that God knows even the creatures no one else sees?
