Isaiah 43 Devotional
Erased for His Own Sake
“I, yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.”Isaiah 43:25 (BSB)
God speaks to Israel as their Creator and Redeemer, the one who has called them by name and claims them as his own (43:1). He does not promise them an easy road. He promises his presence when they pass through deep water and walk through fire (43:2). They are precious and honored in his sight because he loves them (43:4). He alone is God, and there is no Savior besides him (43:11).
Then the chapter turns to Israel's record, and it is not flattering. They have not called on him. They grew weary of him and burdened him with their sins instead of honoring him (43:22-24). Right there, God says he is the one who wipes out their transgressions, for his own sake, and will not keep their sins in mind (43:25). Forgiveness does not wait for a better record. It rests on who God is. Because his reasons for forgiving begin in himself, your failures cannot exhaust them.
To think about: How does it change your view of forgiveness to know God pardons for his own sake rather than because of your record?
