Isaiah 32 Devotional

Renewal Sent from Above

“The work of righteousness will be peace; the service of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.”Isaiah 32:17 (BSB)

Isaiah looks ahead to a king who will reign in righteousness, with rulers who protect rather than prey (32:1). Each will be like shelter in a storm, streams in a dry land, and the shade of a great rock in a scorched country (32:2). Under that rule, eyes open and fools lose their false honor (32:3-5). Then the prophet turns to the complacent women of the city, warning that the harvest will soon fail and the land lie waste (32:9-14).

The change does not come from human effort. The land stays desolate until God sends his Spirit from above, and then the desert becomes an orchard, justice settles in the wilderness, and righteousness produces peace and lasting quiet confidence (32:15-17). Isaiah's hope is not a repaired version of the old city but a renewal sent from God. Peace here comes from the righteousness his Spirit produces, so you can ask him for that renewal in the dry places of your life rather than trying to manufacture it.

To think about: Where in your life do you most need renewal that only God's Spirit can bring, and will you ask him for it today?
