Genesis 18 Devotional
Nothing Too Hard for the LORD
“Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you—in about a year—and Sarah will have a son.””Genesis 18:14 (BSB)
In the heat of the day, three visitors come to Abraham's tent, and he hurries to welcome them with water, bread and a meal. One of them is the LORD. He repeats the promise that Sarah will have a son by this time next year. Sarah, listening at the tent entrance and long past the age of childbearing, laughs to herself, and the LORD asks why, and whether anything is too difficult for him (18:14).
Then the LORD tells Abraham what he is about to do to Sodom. Abraham pleads for the city again and again, from fifty righteous people down to ten, appealing to the Judge of all the earth to do what is right (18:25). God does not rebuke his boldness. He agrees each time. The God of this chapter is both able to do what seems impossible and willing to listen when his people pray. Centuries later an angel told Mary that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). You can bring him your hardest requests and your prayers for others.
To think about: Who could you pray for today with the kind of boldness Abraham showed for Sodom?
