Ezekiel 32 Devotional
Where the Terror Ends
One more lament is raised, this time over Pharaoh. The song compares him to a lion among the nations and a monster thrashing in the rivers, but God catches him in his net and flings him onto open ground (32:2-4). The sky goes dark over his fall (32:7-8). Then a second lament descends into the grave itself. There Egypt finds company: Assyria, Elam, Meshech and Tubal, Edom, the princes of the north, and the Sidonians. They once spread terror in the land of the living, and now they lie among the slain and bear their shame (32:22-30).
Every power that frightened the world ends in the same place. The chapter closes with God himself spreading terror in the land of the living (32:32), so only his power has the last word. For those who belong to Christ, that is a comfort rather than a threat. Jesus died and now lives forever, and death and the grave are under his authority (Revelation 1:17-18). No power that frightens you today will outlast him.
To think about: What power or fear looms largest in your life right now, and how does Christ's victory over death put it in its place?
