2 Corinthians 9 Devotional

Grace Enough to Give

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”2 Corinthians 9:8 (BSB)

Paul wants the promised gift ready before he arrives, given generously rather than squeezed out (9:3-5). Sparse sowing brings a sparse harvest, and generous sowing a generous one (9:6). Each person should give what he has made up his mind to give, without reluctance or pressure, because God delights in the one who gives gladly (9:7).

Paul's confidence does not rest on the Corinthians' resources. It rests on God, who is able to make all grace overflow to them, so that they have enough of everything and plenty for every good work (9:8). The one who provides seed for sowing and bread for eating will supply and multiply their seed too (9:10). Their giving will also overflow in thanks to God (9:12-13). And behind every gift stands a greater one. Paul closes by thanking God for his gift that words cannot describe (9:15). Since every good thing begins with God's giving, you can give gladly, trusting him to supply what you need.

To think about: What would change about your giving if you trusted that God is able to supply all you need?
