2 Chronicles 9 Devotional
A King on God's Throne
“Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on His throne to be king for the LORD your God. Because your God loved Israel enough to establish them forever, He has made you king over them to carry out justice and righteousness.””2 Chronicles 9:8 (BSB)
The queen of Sheba arrives with hard questions and a long caravan. Solomon answers every one, and his house, his servants, and his offerings at the temple leave her overwhelmed (9:1-4).
In the middle of all this splendor, the queen says something easy to pass over. God has delighted in Solomon and set him on God's own throne, to be king for the LORD (9:8). The throne belongs to God. Solomon sits on it as a steward, placed there because God loved Israel and wanted justice and righteousness done among them. Even his wisdom is something God put in his heart (9:23). That is why the chapter can end with Solomon's death without the hope of the kingdom dying with him (9:31). The angel later told Mary that God would give her son the throne of his father David, and that his kingdom would never end (Luke 1:32-33). Every good gift in your hands is held the same way, on loan from the true King.
To think about: What has God placed in your hands that you have been treating as your own rather than as something held for him?
