2 Chronicles 15 Devotional

Found by Those Who Seek

“And all Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.”2 Chronicles 15:15 (BSB)

Asa is met by Azariah son of Oded, on whom the Spirit of God has come. He tells them that the LORD is with them while they are with him. If they seek him, he will let himself be found, but if they abandon him, he will abandon them (15:2). He recalls that in their distress, with no priest to teach them and no law, they turned and sought the LORD, and he was found by them (15:3-4).

Asa takes courage. He removes idols, repairs the altar, and gathers the people into a covenant to seek the LORD with all their heart and soul (15:8-12). The covenant was enforced with deadly severity (15:13), and Asa even deposes his grandmother over her idol (15:16). They sought him eagerly, he was found by them, and he gave them rest (15:15). God promised the exiles that those who search for him with all their heart will find him (Jeremiah 29:13). Whatever has drawn you away, he has not made himself hard to find.

To think about: What would seeking God with your whole heart look like in the week ahead?
