1 Chronicles 16 Devotional

Thanks That Never Runs Out

“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.”1 Chronicles 16:34 (BSB)

Once the ark is in its tent, David offers sacrifices and blesses the people in the LORD's name (16:1-3). Then he appoints Levites to give thanks and praise the LORD (16:4), and he gives them a song. It calls Israel to remember God's covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and how he protected them when they were few and wandering (16:15-22). It calls all the earth to sing, because the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens (16:23-26).

The song comes back to one reason for thanks: the LORD is good, and his loving devotion endures forever (16:34). And the music does not end with the festival. Asaph and his associates stay to minister before the ark every day, while at Gibeon singers are chosen to give thanks (16:37-41). Thanksgiving was built into Israel's ordinary days. Hebrews invites believers to offer God a continual sacrifice of praise through Jesus (Hebrews 13:15). His goodness does not run out, so neither does the reason to thank him.

To think about: What specific part of God's faithfulness could you thank him for today, beyond the obvious blessings?
